The Story of
Zhu‑Zhang Ferry

In the Southern Song Dynasty, philosophers Zhu Xi and Zhang Shi often crossed the Xiangjiang River to give lectures at academies. Orange Isle was on their ferry route. The ferry was later named Zhu‑Zhang Ferry, a well‑
known story of Hunan traditional scholarship.
Youthful Search
for Truth

While studying in Changsha, young Mao Zedong often came to Orange Isle together with his friends including Cai Hesen. They swam in the river and discussed the future of China.
Discussions on this isle helped inspire the founding of the progressive Xinmin Society.
Writing
Qinyuanchun

In late autumn of 1925, Mao Zedong revisited Orange Isle Head before leaving for Guangzhou. Faced with the magnificent autumn river scenery, he composed the famous poem
Qinyuanchun · Changsha. Since then, Orange Isle has become an important red‑tourism landmark.
